hi, my name is jill and it’s been 2 months since my last blog.  i guess life’s just been that good… or that busy?  … i’ve been pinging between san francisco, denver, and finally in dallas for a really long, unsuspected shoot that just… keeps going.  not that i would ever complain in this feast lest the famine begin next week.   santa is just sayin’.  my trip to denver was way too short, and i was way too tired before i’d even left dallas for the party.

anyway, back to business.   i’ve been hoarding photos like gold for the last 2 months.  i’ve discovered that being on a plane with my iphone in “airplane mode” is the best time to edit iphone photos… meanwhile sneaking looks at my email account and text messages (does anyone actually use airplane mode except for KG, who faithfully turns off her phone and forgets to turn it back on when she hits ground?)  don’t call the airport security on me because i don’t obey the rules.  just count it my karma because i’ve gotten half a dozen shampoo bottles taken away by the security fellas.  what a horrible way to start an early morning.

all i can do is post a few… and promise that more are to come.  these are just a few snapshots of my life that i’ve held hostage on my iphone.

without further ado and in no particular order, may i present my monday night camera dump:

and that concludes the grab bag of photos i’m including in tonight’s presentation.

cheers and have a good monday night folks.

i’ve been lucky enough to spend the latter half of my week and weekend in austin, tx.  this was for both business and pleasure, meeting with a possible soon-to-be client, scouting the austin landscape for beautiful scenery, and catching up with the best of old friends from college and otherwise.

just for funsies, i’ve posted a few photos i snapped from my iphone.

awesome shoes!!

09/08/2009

so i’m not big into clicking around on blogs, so i’m just posting things i find really awesome.  these photos were in an article regarding walking barefoot– as opposed to running shoes (or any other shoes) which buffer the foot from actually having to work and use the feet muscles we were born with to balance us and sustain shock.  anyway, these photos are awesome.  the actual story is at this link: http://www.livingbarefoot.info/2009/01/you-walk-wrong/

this is noah, jacklyn, and asa caveny.  they are brilliant, warm, generous, and some of my most favorite friends in Dallas.  and this is their home.  AND a few of these photos will be published in On Magazine.  Hot, right?

more soaps

09/04/2009

so here are a few final images from our shoot… i have noticed that they look a little unsaturated.  but i have tried to post these 3 times, and i’m just not going to web-saturate these so they pop.  try to imagine it!

bath salts!mango mint tropical scrubberry wine scrub yumminess

Today i was in the presence of truly remarkable soaps.  R.S. is a small company who makes handmade soaps, salts, scrubs, and moisturizers.  Lavender, tea tree oil, honey, and jasmine are just a few of the smells I was swimming in all day.   Ingredients for shots included mango, peaches, lemons and rose petals.  With names like Cleopatra’s Royal Treatment and smells like chocolate and coffee, I can’t wait until these soaps make it to the stores!

And the soaps are still in my house… Mishty will be lucky if she gets them back.

the soaps are in the trailer getting hair and makeup!

and, btw, I’ve decided I want a snuggie.  You’ve seen the infomercials.  You know you want one.

so, i am not very coordinated.  at all.  i run into walls, i have weird, unaccounted for bruises on my legs, and i usually have a sore thumb from hitting the doorknob with it as i swing wildly down the hallway in my house.  this being said, i played volleyball for a few hours sunday night.  i don’t think i played very well, and about the only thing i did gain was a little water weight from a few glasses of vodka and cranberry  and a weird left-side (i’m a leftie) mid-back problem that i can only attribute to bad form.  i woke up this morning (tuesday) hoping that someone will be able to bore a hole into my back and thus eliminate whatever muscle fibers are angry this morning.

getting back to the point, though, i have a wicked serve.  i got us a few points.  but my normal MO is that i will shirk from the ball if it’s coming down on me…  sometimes i swing like a crazy person in self-defense and pummel it over the net (or at the net)…  and sometimes i just flat out try to respond like a decent player, and then i miss it all together.  either way, i get a little rowdy from afore-mentioned vodka-cranberry.

i’m awesome.  i think i’ll be picking this sunday-afternoon project up more often.  i’ll try to post a picture or two next time.

for now, enjoy this picture of sadie sleeping in her outdoor-hammock.  she doesn’t enjoy the early mornings as much as i do and prefers if you leave her alone.

"does this angle make me look fat?"

a real picture

08/13/2009

finally, after years of being behind the camera, I’ve got a picture that is not blurry, and i’m not doing something stupid like yelling at someone behind the camera.  this is a great thing…  everyone should have at least one great photo of them a year– ive always wanted to be part of those 1-year projects where the person takes a photo of themselves every day and tracks their facial structure.  i guess i could just bite the bullet and do it myself.  once i buy that extra camera body, i suppose i’ll have no excuse to make this happen.  anyway, cheers.

empowerment

08/11/2009

When I was in college, I always knew that life would be unpredictable.  I wasn’t sure how it would roll, where I’d end up, and what I’d actually be doing.  Photography was a suprising joy that erupted out of my senior year, and Dallas was a side road that had never occurred to me, and probably wouldn’t have ever stuck had circumstances not just placed it in my path.  And then the staying power of it, well, that was due to circumstance too.  Usually is, I suppose.  I keep dreaming of San Francisco, a return to home, and I always envision I’ll get there eventually.  A photographer doesn’t have to stay in one place… that’s the beauty of a photographer.  Mostly, I think that anyone can do any job from anywhere, if they only want it badly enough.  Power of the mind.  I digress into dreams about moving…

The REAL reason for this post is that I was reminded of the larger base of resources in the community.  I was doing what we all do, clicking around on the computer, reading blogs and “wasting time” and I came across this stamp:

Ask Me.I love this.  Because it reminds me that there’s a whole network of folks who are working out the details of their own lives, right this minute.  I guess it makes me feel a little more like I’ve got a community, rather than isolated at my computer.  I also think its a great way to remind myself that the community is friendly, not hostile, as I sometimes imagine it is.
